Culturally Revelant Approaches with First Nations, Inuit, and Metis Peoples with Diabetes
This session examines T2D in First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities from a historical lens, explains the holistic structure of Indigenous Diabetes Health Circle's programs, services, and resources. Participants will learn about specific characteristics of diabetes in the First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities as well as how ongoing disparities in the social determinants of health impacts diabetes risk, management, and quality of care.
Central to the presentation is the knowledge that (Indigenous) culture is vital to one's sense of identity, autonomy, and overall health and wellbeing.
